Officer Arrested After Fatal DWI Wreck
A Houston Police Department officer involved in a fatal head-on car wreck has been arrested and is in custody at the Fort Bend County Jail.
Officer James Combs, 33, who lives in the Richmond area, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and is facing a charge of Intoxicated Manslaughter. He has a $100,000 bond.
Early Friday morning, Combs was driving his Chevrolet Tahoe and veered into the oncoming lane at the intersection of Beechnut and Westmoor and struck a Corvette being driven by Brian Manring, 36, also of the Richmond area. Manring died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
Responding Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office deputies detected the presence of alcohol on Combs' breath and requested he complete a field sobriety test. He refused to attempt the sobriety tests so a warrant was obtained and he was transported to Memorial-Hermann – Katy Hospital for a blood draw.
The Sheriff’s Office received the blood test results today (8/16/16) which showed Combs had a blood alcohol content of .17 when the test was applied at the hospital.
