Sugar Land Police want to remind residents of a few things that can help keep their homes safe if they're going to be traveling.
1. Let your neighbors know that you'll be out of town. A nosey neighbor is your best line of defense against home burglars!
2. Invest in good quality timers for lights. Use them in rooms that you are normally in during evening hours to make your home look lived in.
3. Ask a trusted neighbor to bring in mail, or put a hold on your mail through the US Post Office during your time away.
4. Set your alarm, and let your alarm company know that if there is an activation, to call the Police Department first instead of calling you.
5. Lock gates to make it harder for thieves to get to your back yard.
6. If no one is at the house (no house sitters, pet sitters, etc), place your home on the House Watch List with Sugar Land Police Department for a little extra patrol while you're away.
7. Stay off of Social Media! Thieves are watching, so don't advertise that you're away from home.
