Deputies with Constable Ted Heap's Toll Road Division are asking for your help with the search for a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident early Monday morning.
The accident was reported shortly after 6 a.m. in the 10500 block of the West Sam Houston Tollway southbound at the Southwest Freeway. It occurred in the center lane of the overpass just before the tollway crosses over IH-69.
The victim, a 20-year-old male riding a street-legal black Yamaha moped, appears to have been struck from behind by an unidentified pickup truck or SUV traveling at a high rate of speed.
The moped was severely damaged and the victim suffered fatal injuries in the collision. The driver of the other vehicle did not stop. Deputies were notified by another motorist who came upon the aftermath of the wreck but did not see the actual collision.
"I am hoping another driver saw what happened this morning on that busy stretch of the tollway," said Constable Ted Heap. "I would ask them to contact us let us know what they saw."
The impact appears to have broken off a piece of the vehicle's front bumper. Investigators believe that vehicle to be a 2012-2014 GMC Yukon or Sierra (unknown color).
If you witnessed this incident or have any information which would help with the investigation of this fatality, please contact the Precinct 5 Constable's Office at 281-463-6666 or the Harris County Toll Road Authority at 281-584-7500.
