Important message from Sugar Land Police Department regarding Holiday Shopping Season
As you and your credit card get geared up for this holiday shopping season, the Sugar Land Police want to take a beat to go over juggings.
Juggings occur when criminals follow residents from banks or other establishments. The suspect will follow residents they believe are in possession of money or other goods and break into their cars or rob residents directly. Juggers frequently target customers carrying bank bags, bank envelopes, coin boxes or shopping bags.
How can you protect yourself?
🛍️ Always be aware of your surroundings!
🛍️ Do not leave or try to conceal your cash withdrawal or purchase in your vehicle, even if it's at home. If you leave it, they will thieve it.
🛍️ If you’re planning on making large purchases, like electronics, consider making it your last stop so you can go directly home.
🛍️ If you notice someone following you, call the police. DO NOT GO HOME. Keep driving until an officer is able to locate you.
It's easy to be complacent, but criminals will pray on and exploit inattentiveness. If something doesn't look right, do not be afraid to report it to the establishment you're at or call 911.
Stay safe, Sugar Land!
