Properly securing your weapon reminder from the Sugar Land Police Department
Hey y'all, this is a friendly reminder that your car is not a safe place to store your guns. Whether you’re taking a quick trip down to the grocery store or going on a road trip, you need to properly secure your weapon. The best way to help prevent firearms theft, accidents and misuse is to securely store firearms when they’re not in use.
1. If you must leave your weapon on the car (i.e. unable to carry it to your destination due to 30.06/30.07 laws or business policy), invest in a console safe that is then properly installed in your vehicle. These can be easily concealed.
2. If you don’t have a safe properly installed in your vehicle, do NOT leave your guns in the car (even if they are concealed in the center console or under a seat).
3. Keep an inventory of your guns that includes each serial number and a photo of the weapon. If by chance your weapon does get stolen, having this information on hand and easily accessible will allow officers to record it as stolen more quickly.
It should be a first priority as responsible gun owners to do everything possible keep guns out of the wrong hands; properly storing your weapon helps keep Sugar Land safe.
