Elementary School Zone Violations

Last week the Sugar Land Police Department, in coordination with FBISD Police Department, worked every elementary school zone in the city. The Sugar Land Police officers made 30 traffic contacts and observed that the most common issues are parent behaviors such as:

- Speeding

- Not paying attention to students crossing the street

- Illegal turns being made

- Inattention to signage on the road prohibiting stopping, standing, parking.

- Parents blocking turn lanes.

- Dropping students off on the opposite side of the street.

- Counter-flowing traffic when parking on the opposite side of the street.

- Intersection blocking

- Fire lane parking

Behaviors attributed to students only included:

-Not crossing streets at crosswalks.

If the kids know what to do…we should take a page out of their book and follow suit. Remember, kids are always watching and learning from us, so let’s set a good example and follow the law!
