As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Dina Mueller, co-owner of Scott’s Saloon at OTP.
Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
We guarantee great Southern food and lots of family-friendly fun any time at our unique full bar and full restaurant! With live music and games each weekend, we’re truly are a place where you can eat, drink and dance.
Our restaurant items are made in house the day it is served and nothing is ever frozen.
We host live music events every weekend and constantly have music playing. Our Thursday night “I Can’t Karaoke” nights are very popular.
At our event venue and outdoor garden, we work with any size budget to host your special event.
Although the Old Trading Post has been here since 1948 when Ms. Agnes Booth owned it, my husband and I took over as owners in December, 2018, completely remodeling the property. Come check out our comfortable chairs at our sit down restaurant, along with our outside picnic tables.
How did you decide to get involved in this line of work?
I’ve worked in the auto business for most of my life and my husband, Scott, retired after working 40 years as an IT engineer. We used to go to OTP when we were dating to get a drink and hamburger together. We’ve been married for 10 years now and love remembering our visits to OTP together.
It broke our hearts when the OTP closed in 2014. We would drive by the property frequently when we went to play golf down the street. One day we said to each other, “Let’s buy it and have some fun.”
This place doesn’t disappoint! It’s hard work; but, we both believe it’s worth it. One of us is here from open to close. If you contact us on Facebook, I answer the call myself.
We don’t cut corners and our food quality never suffers. We prep top sirloin burgers every day and we are very happy when our customers praise our food.
Making people happy with food is my passion! For the past decade, we would throw parties for Christmas at our house. I would cook a huge spread and over 70 people would come and share our fun. Now, I enjoy cooking for everyone every single day!
Tell us a couple things you are proud of your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
We are very proud to be serving such great neighbors in this community. Our goal was to re-make this property into a place where you could bring your children and grandchildren, parents and grandparents, singles who are dating and everyone in between.
We love to see families enjoying themselves, playing our life-size cornhole and Connect 4 games, darts, washer toss, playing football and other fun games.
What is your favorite part of running this business?
My husband and I have had the most fun getting to know our neighbors. We’ve met some phenomenal people in this community.
I love coming in and listening to all the different styles of music we offer. We enjoy dueling pianos, country, rock, zydeco, flash 80’s and many other music styles. I love the variety!
I especially enjoy our live music on Saturday evenings (and sometimes on Friday nights) and our Thursday and Friday Karaoke nights with a DJ.
On Sundays, we also enjoy Family Fun Day from 2-6 pm. We offer build your omelettes and bottomless mimosas. It’s so rewarding to see young people, young families, elderly couples and multi-generation families enjoying themselves with each other.
Recently, we had six couples between the ages of 80-90 spinning each other around the dance floor. Everyone enjoyed watching them so much!
Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Any person who wants to relax, eat, enjoy music and play with their family is our ideal customer.
Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
We are very excited about opening our fine dining steakhouse in the next month or so. We’ve been remodeling a building on our property and we’re in the final stages of completion now. Stay tuned to our website and our social media page for our grand opening details!
In April this year, we were very honored to host the Texas Music Festival and support the non-profit Child Advocates of Fort Bend with event proceeds.
We also enjoyed hosting an event for Lunches of Love Foundation which provides free lunches for the underprivileged and hosting a Harley Davidson Bikes and Bugs event for the Epilepsy Foundation. We hosted three charity events within our first year of business and we plan to continue to host charity events to raise much needed funds for these nonprofits throughout the year.
We also support ongoing festive events, featuring an urban cowboy style mechanical bull to tie in with the county fair, our Christmas toy drive to support Toys for Tots and many other family fun events. We’re also looking forward to our upcoming Halloween fun!

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
We will continue to improve our entertainment, responding to our customer’s requests for more eating, drinking and dancing options. We plan to host a fall and spring festival, along with the music festival, adding carnival fun. We also plan to offer a private room rental option at our steakhouse and add another air conditioned private event rental space so that we can host more corporate-related parties.
