Cullinan Park Cleanup

On Saturday, May 7, the Sugar Land Employees in Early Development and the Sugar Land Parks and Recreation Department engaged about 65 volunteers for a clean-up day at Cullinan Park, 12414 Highway 6 South.

The park is the newest and largest addition to the Sugar Land park system and includes more than 754 acres of natural habitats including bottomland forests, pecan woodlands, forested wetlands and rolling grasslands.

During the four-hour event, volunteers from local schools, church organizations and the Cullinan Park Conservancy removed more than 20 cubic yards of trash and debris.
Cullinan Park has long been considered a natural oasis in the southwest Houston region. It was acquired by the City of Houston in 1989 and opened in 1991 as a nature preserve with improvements funded by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

In early 2015, a partnership led to an inter-local agreement between the city of Sugar Land, the city of Houston, the Houston Parks Board and the conservancy. The partnership ensures the successful development, operation and maintenance of the park by transferring the land into Sugar Land city limits and outlining goals for the conservancy's fundraising efforts.

Do you know how the city announced this to get the volunteers? It might have been fun for our family....
