Fort Bend ISD Calendar Options for 2021-2022 School Year

Fort Bend ISD has launched a survey to gain community feedback on three calendar options for the 2021-22 school year. The survey will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2021, and the results of the survey will be shared with the District’s calendar committee before a final recommendation is presented to the Board of Trustees in February 2021.

As a District of Innovation, FBISD has flexibility to begin school before the state mandated start date of the fourth Monday in August, allowing more balance between the fall and spring semesters. All three FBISD calendar options include a start day in early-August. Two calendar options include an end date before Memorial Day, with one calendar option having an end date after Memorial Day.

Similarities in Calendar Options:

All calendar options include a traditional holiday schedule - a full week off for Thanksgiving, two full weeks for the Winter Break, the Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Day holiday, and a week-long Spring Break. Also included are Professional Development days for teaching staff, the state required 75,600 operational minutes and at least 840 minutes designated for inclement weather days.

Differences in Calendar Options:

Option A has the earliest start with classes beginning on August 5 and ending on May 24, and begins the second semester January 6, one day later than the other calendars. Option B has a start date of August 11 with a later end date of June 2 and is the only option that offers intersession* days in October and March. Option C begins the school year August 11 and ends May 26, before Memorial Day.

*Intersession

Dates designated for Intersession allocate time to provide additional enrichment or intervention support to students. Intersession days are required only for students who are participating in planned intervention or enrichment activities.
