An inside look: Texas' first Seafood City supermarket opens in Sugar Land

The supermarket specializing in Filipino foods is the first Seafood City to open in the state of Texas.

Watch KPRC 2 News at 6 for a tour of the supermarket and details on its significance to the Houston area from reporter Bill Spencer.

This is not a mom and pop sized store, this is a 50,000 square foot store with a Filipino specialty bakery and a Filipino Bar-B-Que restaurant located inside.

Seafood City founded San Diego has quickly grown to 32 stores nationwide and the stores that are being opened are being strategically located in communities with the largest populations of Filipino Americans.

An estimated 28,548 Harris county residents identify as Filipino-Americans, according to the 2020 American Community Survey, conducted by the Census Bureau.

Where once Filipino families would have to shop and stop at multiple mom and pop shops to find the traditional foods they are looking for, now they can find it in one place at Seafood City.

I was in there in a quick stop, I just happened to see it as I was driving by, and it's amazing! It's huge, and has all sorts of bakery, frozen, and fresh produce. I found all sort of things to buy.

@Jnainani :
I heard from my neighbors and friends that it is a zoo and to wait because it's very busy. It might be worth visiting now since the holidays are over.
