No surprise on the ones closing around the Houston area...

Greenspoint, Houston, TX (314,000 square feet; opened in 1976; 70 associates)
West Oaks Mall, Houston, TX (244,000 square feet; opened in 1982; 135 associates)
Pasadena Town Square, Pasadena, TX (209,000 square feet; opened in 1962; 78 associates)

The store at West Oaks was really nasty the last time I went in there.

Do they sell anything other than cosmetics? Seems like the entire 1st floor is that.

I feel like the ones listed are in what I would call the "ghetto" aka crime ridden and very dangerous to make eye contact. I hope the one in FC Mall doesn't go away. Just this past weekend I couldn't find a parking spot!

@snv86
I wonder if any of them will be converted to their new discount model.

I hope they don't sit empty. I hate the thought of anchor stores closing.

West Oaks Mall had really declined in the past 10 or more years.
Look for Sears to be the next store to close up shop.

@SweetwaterBoss
Sears nationwide is losing. Heck their stock is crashing.

@Stealth83 Eddie Lampert and his Hedge Fund destroyed Sears.
As Warren Buffet said a while back -
"Turning around a retailer that has been slipping for a long time would be very difficult. Can you think of an example of a retailer that was successfully turned around?"

Buffett said that other competitors such as Costco and Walmart could provide better deals while operating on smaller margins, making it hard for Sears and Kmart to compete.

"Retailing is like shooting at a moving target. In the past, people didn't like to go excessive distances from the street cars to buy things. People would flock to those retailers that were near by. In 1966 we bought the Hochschild Kohn department store in Baltimore. We learned quickly that it wasn't going to be a winner, long-term, in a very short period of time. We had an antiquated distribution system. We did everything else right. We put in escalators. We gave people more credit. We had a great guy running it, and we still couldn't win. So we sold it around 1970. That store isn't there anymore. It isn't good enough that there were smart people running it."

Funny in a sad way how times have changed. Sears and many big named stores were in areas where mom and dad stores operated when I as a kid. All operated OK. Soon the mom and dad stores were run out business. Sears and stores like that took over. Now being those are being run out by bigger stores. I wonder when WalMart will be run out.
