Beware of Scams Impersonating Law EnforcementFrom Sugar Land Police Department: Be aware of this scam! This scammer used a real Sergeant’s name with the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office to solicit a callback from a citizen here in Sugar Land. If you receive a live call like this, ask the “officer” for a case number, the District Attorney or Prosecutor’s name, or look up and call the agency’s official number from Google. If you dial the number mentioned in this video, you get a fairly “official” robot with menu options. Pay close attention and you’ll notice the robot says “Sheriff’s DEPARTMENT” not Office, a minor but glaring sign that this is a scam.
