This week in our "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, we sat down with Cornel Nkwocha, Co Founder and COO of Compassionate Care at Home of Houston.



Tell us a bit about your business:  What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
At Compassionate Care at Home, our mission is to provide compassionate and reliable care to individuals in need, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being within the comfort of their own homes. We are a privately owned company located in the Houston Community, and we are passionate about serving our community and veterans. We help our clients maintain their independence with personalized and proactive care in a comfortable and familiar setting. We offer flexible and budget friendly rates and experienced caregivers to ensure peace and respite.

The Compassionate Way:
1.     Comprehensive Care: We specialize in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, cooking, cleaning, dressing, incontinence care, medication reminders, companionship, and more.
2.     Transportation Services: We provide transportation to doctor’s appointments, grocery stores, and even church services to make life easier for our patients.
3.     No Minimums, No Contracts: There are no minimum hours required, and we don’t lock patients into long-term contracts. You’re free to stop or pause services whenever you wish.
4.     Affordable and Customizable Rates:  We offer the most competitive rates for private pay in the area, starting at around $30 per hour. If families have a specific budget, we can tailor a custom plan to meet your needs.
5.     Experienced Caregivers: We have the highest-paid caregivers in the city, ensuring we attract the best talent. To ensure your peace of mind, all caregivers undergo three types of background checks: nationwide criminal, nurse registry, and DPS.
6.     Reliability and Flexibility: If patients are ever unhappy with their caregiver for any reason, they can request a change at any time. We also provide backup caregivers in case of illness or emergencies.
7.     Consistency in Care: We strive to assign the same caregiver to your loved one throughout the term of service, unless the caregiver is unavailable due to illness or unforeseen circumstances. Consistency helps build strong, trusting relationships.
8.     Split Schedules (Morning and Afternoon): We also offer split schedules, where our patients can receive care in the morning and afternoon sessions. This allows for flexibility and ensures that care can be adjusted to meet the unique needs of each client.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?

We chose to start this business as a heartfelt tribute to our late Mother who passed away from Gastric Cancer in 2021. Her unwavering dedication to helping others inspired us deeply and we wanted to honor her legacy by bringing her dream to life. Our business is more than just a professional pursuit; it’s a personal commitment to uphold the values our mother instilled in us. By dedicating our work to her memory, we strive to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
What sets us apart is our commitment to building strong relationships with our clients. We are personally invested in our clients as they have direct access to us as the owners of the agency. Since we’re not a franchise, we can offer personalized, hands-on care. I’m proud of my team and the service we provide. As an independent Company we offer truly personalized care that puts our clients and their families first. ​

As the founders of our home care company, we bring a unique blend of healthcare expertise and business acumen to our operations. Our background encompasses both clinical experience and strategic business management, allowing us to understand the intricacies of patient care while effectively overseeing the company's growth and sustainability. This dual perspective ensures that our services are not only compassionate and client-centered
but also efficient and responsive to the evolving needs of our community. By integrating medical knowledge with sound business practices, we strive to provide exceptional care that honors our commitment to excellence and our clients' well-being.
