As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Bobby Castro, President of Quality Home Shows and The Sugar Land Home & Outdoor Living Show!




Tell us a bit about your business:  What does your business offer and how long have you been around?
Over the years, I've provided Home and Garden Shows experiences and vendor booths in the Greater Houston area including The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Cy Fair and Lake Conroe.  We only work with the most qualified business owners in the industry to ensure a great event! At our Home and Outdoor Living Show you'll benefit from a variety of home improvement services, new trends, home designers, landscaping services, water features, pools and spas - we've got it all! So, if you're a business owner and you are looking to exhibit in a Home and Garden Show or if you are looking to create the home of your dreams, you won't want to miss this Sugar Land Home and Outdoor Living Show this May 20th & 21st.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
Back in the day, I worked in the hospitality industry, and about 25 years ago, I met an amazing man named Alan Wood. He really liked my personality and the way I treated him. One day he was interviewing salespeople for his home show at the George R. Brown Convention Center. After numerous interviews he was unable to find a good salesperson, I asked him how his interviews went, and he stated it's hard-to-find good help! That's when he offered me the sales position, and thus began a special mentorship between us. Alan taught me everything I know, and without him, I wouldn't be the person I am today. Sadly, Alan passed away in 2005 but I will always cherish the memories and lessons he shared with me.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
I take immense pride in the success of the over 65 home and garden shows that I have organized and put together, and I plan to keep doing so. It brings me great joy to hear about the triumphs of my clients, especially when they choose to work with me again. I am known for being a people person, with a genuine passion for helping those who seek my assistance. It's no secret that I have a big heart, and I'm always willing to go the extra mile for those in need.

What is your favorite part of running this business?
One of my favorite aspects of doing this business is the opportunity to meet countless new people, listen to their unique stories, and share my own with them. It's a truly fulfilling experience to connect with others on a personal level, and I cherish every chance I get to do so.

Who is your target market or ideal customer/client?
The ideal target market for a Home and Garden Event would be homeowners, renters, and anyone interested in improving or maintaining their living space. It could also include people looking for new home design and decoration ideas, landscaping services, and outdoor living solutions. Additionally, those interested in gardening, DIY projects, and home improvement services would be a good target market for this type of event.
Essentially, anyone who is looking to create a beautiful and functional living space, whether indoor or outdoor, could be considered a potential customer/client for our upcoming Home and Garden Event.

Can you tell us something about yourself as a business owner? What is your background?
As for what kind of person I am, I'm someone who always starts their workday with a smile on their face (according to feedback from my customers). I genuinely enjoy connecting with people and take great pride in providing each customer with an unforgettable experience. Whether it's through a lighthearted joke, a personal anecdote, or some friendly small talk, I have a knack for creating a welcoming and inviting atmosphere that keeps my customers coming back for more.

Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?

The Sugar land Home and Outdoor Living Show is a special event itself- happening for two days only May 20th and 21st.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
Helping you maximize your lifestyle, whether indoors or outdoors, not only improves the quality of your life, but adds value to your investment. By utilizing various marketing and advertising channels, including social media, email marketing, and traditional advertising methods such as radio and print media, we will reach potential attendees and vendors to create an inspirational experience. As we continue to build strong relationships with vendors, sponsors, and industry professionals, we increase visibility and gain credibility, providing our guests with valuable resources.
Also, we actively seek feedback from attendees and vendors, using these observations to continually improve future events and create enjoyable and productive experiences for everyone involved.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
To grow and improve as an event organizer, it's important to embrace technology, focus on sustainability, offer unique experiences, provide exceptional customer service, partner with industry professionals, and continuously evaluate and improve your event strategy based on attendee and vendor feedback and industry trends.
By focusing on these factors, I believe that will improve our business, increase attendee satisfaction and vendor participation, and create successful events that stand out in the industry.
